Challenging the Status Quo
I found this article by Osamah Khalil, which discuss the Palestinian Authority (PA), interesting. Mr Khalil paints a picture of the PA that isn’t generally found in Western media. I guess it had never really occurred to me that the PA might simply be viewed as another tool of Western and Israeli oppression although after reading the article it definitely makes sense. The PA is recognized as a legitimate governing body by the United States and its main role is ostensibly to act as the government for the Palestinian faction of a two-party state. One issue that arises from this is the possibility that the two-party state will never actually be created. Another issue Mr. Khalil brings up is that even if a two-party state were created in Israel, which is something that not only Israelis but also many Palestinians are opposed to, the PA doesn’t really seem to be representing Palestinians’ interests.
